General Description:
This module will cover current ideas about motor disorders such as stroke,
multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy and spinal cord
injury. Self-directed reading module with regular tutorials covering stroke,
multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy and spinal cord
injury.
Aim:
To cover recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology
underlying major neurological movement disorders.
Objective:
To gain detailed knowledge of current ideas relating to the major movement
disorders of stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy
and spinal cord injury. To gain experience sourcing the literature.
Coursework:
An essay will be set for completion by 16th December 2005. (80%)
Students will be expected to present a short seminar on pathophysiology of a
neurological movement disorder (20%). The seminar should
focus on issues relating to the topic eg. to do with pathology itself or
management of the pathology. These presentations will be done in pairs when
possible. Each presentation should be no longer than 20 minutes. All students
should familiarise themselves with the basic information relating to each
topic studied.
