Course information, 2006/2007 Development of motor control7.5 credit module for MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy Course organiser: Bobath Centre London staff in conjunction with Dr Margaret Mayston (UCL). Aim: To provide students with a framework for the understanding of movement disorder in the context of current neurodevelopmental and motor control theories, and to apply this knowledge to the management of people with neurological impairment. Objective: Discuss how a disturbance of sensorimotor development can affect the development of the musculoskeletal system and social, behavioural and cognitive development. The analysis of emerging motor skills during development will give students a framework for understanding the nature of the movement disorder in people with neurological movement disorder. In addition it will provide a basis for planning and executing a management programme. This course will be a core course for neurophysiotherapy and an option for musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports and exercise medicine. Content: Lectures and interactive discussion of video observations are the backbone of the course. This module will be held at the Bobath Centre, East Finchley, with the course members of the 8-week Bobath Course. Assessment: This module will be assessed by essay and seminar presentations (each 50%). Essay topic is same as seminar topic. Write an essay of 1500 words on the chosen topic, to be handed in by the first week after the Christmas break (January 13th 2006), but very happy to receive it before! |
