Principles of Management of Sports Injury

7.5 credit module for MSc in Physiotherapy

Module Leader: Ann McCarthy

Zone 1, Tuesdays, Oct 3rd-November 21st, 9.30am - 4.30pm

Location A6 Practical Room, Holborn Union Building, Archway Campus.

Aims:

  •  To critically review the role of the physiotherapist as part of the sports management team.

  •  To further develop the skills and understanding required to successfully prevent and manage injuries in athletes of different; age groups, genders and levels of participation.

  •  To integrate critical, analytical and evidence based reasoning with practical assessment, treatment and sports specific rehabilitation skills.

  •  To stimulate areas for further research in the field of sports injury prevention and management.

This module is taught by a number of specialist sports physiotherapists and practitioners, combining both theoretical and practical taught sessions.

Assessment: This module will be assessed by essay and practical examination (each 50%).

Written assignment 2500-3000 words. Hand in date: tba (prob End Jan), MSc student office. Return date and feedback: March 2006.

Practical examination: 3 stations each of 25 minutes. Taping and strapping. Orthopaedic assessment and differential diagnosis.
