Outcome measures and their analysis or
Becoming An Effective Clinical Practitioner
PHOL G003, 7.5 credits
Brief Description of Module: this module enables students to acquire
the knowledge and critical evaluation skills to select, evaluate, and
use outcome measures within their own area of practice/research. The emphasis
will be on developing and evaluating effective clinical practice.
Module Aims: to advance the understanding of outcome measurement
within the context of effective clinical practice.
Skills Elements: Analytical and evaluative; Critical
appraisal; Communication and presentation
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of outcome measurement
within the context of evidence based practice
- Critically examine the literature relating to measurement issues
- Utilise knowledge of measurement principles in conjunction with knowledge
of clinical issues to critically evaluate outcome measurement instruments
- Critically examine and justify your selection of outcomes, and the instruments
you have chosen to measure them for your own particular clinical setting/research
project
- Demonstrate an understanding of the limitations and strengths of the
measures used for your own particular clinical setting / research project
- Discuss and debate issues which must be considered when interpreting
the results of studies evaluating outcome
- Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and interpret the results
generated by measurement instruments in relation to your own particular
setting / research project
