What is the MSc School of Human Health and Performance?
|
|
|
|
History |
|
|
|
In late 1998 University College London set up an MSc
School for subjects concerned with human health, sport and performance
to be located on the Archway Campus. The aim of the school is to
develop a number of inter-related MSc programmes with an eventual
annual intake of 100 plus full and part time students. Professor
Bruce Lynn of the Physiology Department, UCL, was appointed to direct
the project. The MSc School is part of the Centre for Human
Health and Performance, a joint venture on the Archway site between
UCL and Middlesex University. The Centre was officially opened by
David Moorcroft of UK Athletics in May 2001. |

General
Information |
|
|
|
The school currently offers MSc and Graduate Diploma courses in
Neuromusculoskeletal (including
Manipulative) Physiotherapy [information]
Neurophysiotherapy [information]
Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy
[information]
Sports Physiotherapy [information]
and
Sports and Exercise Medicine
[information]
Each programme is headed by a Programme Co-ordinator and is organised
on a modular basis. Many modules are suitable for several programmes,
thus allowing efficient teaching of these overlap topics. Some modules
are offered also as stand-alone short
courses. Finally, the School organises a short
course for overseas physiotherapists seeking state registration
in the UK and occasional special lectures. Most teaching is now
on the Archway campus, but some occurs in the main UCL site or on
the RNOH site at Stanmore in Middlesex or at the Bobath Centre in
East Finchley. Several departments at UCL, including Physiology,
Anatomy and Surgery, together
with UCL's Institute
of Human Performance, are involved in running the programme.

The MSc School is housed in the Holborn Union Building on The Archway
Campus, a joint development between UCL, Middlesex University and
the Whittington Hospital Trust. It is situated adjacent to the Whittington
Hospital, close to the Archway tube station. The main campus of
UCL can be reached in about 30min via the Northern Line.
Other occupants of the Holborn Union Building are CHIME (Centre
for Health Informatics and Multiprofessional Education); the Clinical
Skills Centre; the Department of Primary Care and Population sciences;
the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences; The Archway
Healthcare Library and the Whittington Hospital Postgraduate
Centre. As well as the teaching space in the Holborn Union
building, the MSc School uses the new Human Performance Laboratory
of the Centre for Human Health and Performance, situated in the
Staple Building on the Archway Campus.
